MOSTe October 2023 Newsletter
Dear MOSTe Family,
It might be spooky season, but our fearless students and mentors are building connections, exploring the city, and working together to research colleges and complete applications!
This Saturday we’re hosting a college essay clinic for our 12th graders and their mentors, to help students polish their drafts in time for those November UC deadlines.
Our warmest thanks to the amazing team from Deloitte, who just completed a strategic engagement with us through their Stepup skills-based volunteering program. We’re inspired by their findings, and look forward to putting them into action. Thank you for sharing your time and expertise!
Scholars, you can still RSVP for our Career Fair by Friday! Our hosts at Blank Rome have invited guests who work in entertainment, medicine, fashion, law, and other fields, from companies including Trader Joe’s and the FBI. Don’t miss this exciting event – sign up today!
Onward,
Amy Ludwig

September Workshop
September 23, 2023
In our September communication workshop, students developed their skills through activities that required heightened attention, shared strategies, and teamwork. The middle school students worked on their active listening skills, while high school scholars wrote and practiced their elevator pitches. These skills will come in handy at our upcoming Career Fair!
We also welcomed more new scholars from Tibby K-8 in Compton, including the lucky winner of a raffle for a new iPad generously donated by our friends at the LA Clippers!
Career Fair
October 28, 2023
Blank Rome will host our annual Career Fair at their offices in Century City, in conjunction with their Adopt-A-Center program.
Join us for a day of connection building, career exploration and fun! You will hear from panelists who have worked for the FBI, NBC Universal, Family Guy and more!
The RSVP form has been extended to the end of the week. Sign up here: https://forms.gle/TZtkcMp1uNuERByq6
College and Alumnae News
MOSTe is thrilled to be an Official Partner with the LA College Comeback Campaign, a new effort to help Angelenos who have paused their higher education get back to school. If you needed to put other priorities before college, you’re not alone – and it’s never too late to pick up where you left off!
Interested in reigniting your higher education journey? You can re-enroll in a college you previously attended, or get a fresh start toward a 4-year or 2-year degree, a credential, or a certificate. Speak with a trained Comeback Navigator who can help you explore options and resources. Schedule your 1:1 appointment today!
Mentor Moment
Thanks to the 15 mentors who joined us on Thursday for an introduction to CareerSpring! We’re excited to partner with this new platform created to support first-generation students with career exploration. It offers an array of “a day in the life” videos from professionals sharing about their career paths, and useful advice for students.
We hope this resource will become an adjunct to our mentors’ networks, and further enable them to support students in learning about different careers and potential college majors.
“Andrea and I visited Occidental College where we were able to attend an info session and explore the campus. We made it a goal to make time for the opportunity to check out all the colleges on her radar for her to make an informed decision.” – Mentor Isabel
“Paulet and I went to The Broad to see the Keith Haring exhibit. It was educational and fun.” – Mentor Kelly
“Emma and I went to Koreatown to have lunch, explore the mall, and set some goals for the year. Our word for the year is: Explore!” – Mentor Laurie
