February Careers and Confidence Workshop

Our February workshop kicked off with an activity that encouraged students and mentors to work together. Next, an amazing panel of mentors and alumnae shared a wealth of information and wisdom about college and their professional pathways. Youth Ambassadors Arianna and Monica led a thought-provoking conversation on careers, confidence and life journeys. Students also worked on a magazine cover where they were the cover star! Overall the day was a practice in community building and manifestation. Thank you to all our panelists and volunteers!

Overnight College Tour

We are excited to be hosting our week-long spring break tour again! This year we have selected 12 scholars and will be heading to Portland Oregon. We will visit colleges, connect with current students, and explore the city. We look forward to exploring a new environment and college opportunities!

Class of 2023 Updates

Our Senior class continues to wait patiently to hear about their college applications. So far, students have been accepted to Cal State Long Beach, UC Riverside, Cal Poly Pomona, LMU and Mount St. Mary’s, among others. We are excited to continue hearing back and supporting our students in making the best decision for their future!

Mentor Moment

Woman and teen smiling

“We had such a blast  going to the Museum of Contemporary Art, then to lunch in Koreatown. Jenna convinced me to try a food I’d never tried at the restaurant we went to!” – Mentor Natalie Z.

“We spent a whole day baking Valentine’s goodies. I collaborated with Mentor Hannah and we got together with both Leah and Mya, who are baking experts! They enjoy baking and decorating cakes, cookies, cake-pops, and cupcakes!” – Mentor Cristal T.

Two teens, woman, at bowling alley

“We went to lunch, bowling, visited a KPOP store, and got ice cream.” – Mentor Terry H.

“Adriana is ranked 3rd in her senior class, and Hailey will be going on the Oregon trip in April. This will be her first time on an airplane and she’s going without knowing anyone else but none of that is stopping her from going!” – Mentor Stacy C.

Two smiling Black girls

“We had dinner together and went to Barnes and Noble to explore books.” –Mentor Kelli B.

“Sherlyn, Camila and I celebrated Sherlyn’s birthday at Tierra Mia Cafe. We had a fun conversation about the colleges they would like to attend, college deadlines, and whether or not an out of state college would be an option. Each of my scholars is resilient, resourceful, and has a strong desire to achieve a higher education.” –Mentor Elba S.
