Getting Outdoors, Gaining Experience, and Going Abroad
Dear MOSTe Family,
Hard to believe that school begins again this month! I feel fortunate to have gotten away for some mountain time last week, camping and hiking in Yosemite National Park. It was a great reminder of the need to rest and refresh, and especially of the restorative power of connecting with nature.
Our scholars have been accomplishing all kinds of great things this summer, from being Youth Ambassadors to learning filmmaking, studying abroad, and entering the workplace. Read on for more about Wendy and Adriana’s experiences.
Many thanks to Walters Wholesale Electric for offering such a supportive internship program.
We look forward to our Scholar and Parent Orientation at ASU’s California Center later this month!
Onward,

MOSTe In Action
Youth Ambassadors Program
The MOSTe Youth Ambassadors had their first meeting this month. The six scholars met and discussed what they hope to accomplish in these new roles. Ambassadors will be supporting MOSTe staff with leading workshops, running exciting social media engagements and providing student voice to help guide organizational decisions. Their first task is to plan and implement an Ambassador-led workshop for our upcoming orientation.
Look out for more of their work to come, and check our Instagram @moste.girls to see more behind the scenes images of the day!
Summer Plans
Working at Walters
Wendy will start at UCLA this fall, where she plans to study business. She’s gained invaluable experience as a summer intern at Walters Wholesale Electric:
“I have learned customer service skills and communicated with contractors, manufacturers, and representatives when putting together quotes, and even learned to use programs and software that allow a big company like Walters to keep their finances, orders and customer information organized. The experience I have gained would not have been possible without my co-workers who took the time to train me, share their knowledge, and pass on tips that led me to be successful in my everyday tasks.”
Studying in London
Rising senior Adriana earned a scholarship to a CIEE study abroad program. It was her first trip overseas, and she loved it:
“This summer, I embarked on an adventure of a lifetime. I flew to England for three weeks to learn everything about English culture and William Shakespeare. Here you see me outside Shakespeare’s Globe, where his work continues to be performed. It was a fantastic experience and truly a memorable summer.”
Mentor Moment
Mentors Monica B. and Kelli B. took their mentees on a fun overnight trip to Palm Springs, where they enjoyed playing board games and swimming in the pool!
