WBD Appoints Daniel Sanchez, John Malone’s Nephew, to Board of Directors

Warner Bros. Discovery Expands Board of Directors.

The entertainment company says Daniel Sanchez will join its board of directors effective Oct. 1. Sanchez is no stranger to Discovery shareholders, having previously served on Discovery’s board of directors prior to the 2022 merger with WarnerMedia that created the current company.

He is also the nephew of John Malone, a board member and shareholder of WBD, and currently serves on the boards of Malone’s Liberty Global Ltd. and also Liberty Latin America Ltd. Prior to retiring in 2021, Sánchez worked as an attorney, with a particular focus on tax law and tax planning.

Malone is a major shareholder in several media-related companies, including Liberty Enterprises (which controls SiriusXM, Formula 1, the Atlanta Braves and other properties) as well as Charter Communications. He is also a mentor to WBD CEO David Zaslav.

WBD said in a statement that Sanchez’s legal experience will help him “assist the Board in developing strategies that take into account a broad range of issues resulting from the application and evolution of tax laws and regulations.”

“Dan’s legal background, business experience and exceptional service on the Discovery, Inc. board make him a positive addition to WBD’s board,” said Samuel A. Di Piazza, Jr., chairman of WBD’s board, in a statement. “The company and the industry are in a time of exceptional change, and with it come exceptional opportunities. Dan will be an important voice as the board advises on growth plans, changing consumer preferences and strategic initiatives.”
