UNN goes dark as EEDC disconnects power supply

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka has been left in darkness following the disconnection of the university's power supplies by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company over a N172 million electricity debt.

The whistler We interacted with a few students, one of whom spoke on condition of anonymity and said, “We resumed activities on September 16. Before we went on vacation, we had regular power supply. This time, it is a complete power cut.

“We want this matter to be resolved as soon as possible because when the students return with full attendance there may be protests.”

Another student said, “This disconnection is affecting us terribly. We cannot read in this condition. Let the administration solve this electricity problem. We are not enjoying our stay on campus anymore.”

It was learnt that EEDC disconnected the university over a debt of about N172 million, which took effect when the new interim committee of the university management took over on August 19, 2024.

“The new administration was reported to have paid the distribution company the sum of N72 million as partial payment of the debt but EEDC refused.
