President Tinubu reveals his position on Edo governorship election hours before voting begins

President Bola Tinubu has told all politicians and stakeholders involved in the September 21, 2024 Edo State governorship election to respect the democratic process and promote peace.

The President stressed that the will of the people must be allowed to prevail when choosing their leaders.

Tinubu made his position known in a statement on Friday, signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Dear Onanuga.

President Tinubu He also expressed confidence in the ability of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to remain neutral and impartial in carrying out their mandate with regard to the elections.

He also urged citizens to remain peaceful throughout the electoral process.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on all stakeholders in the forthcoming Edo State governorship election to conduct themselves in a peaceful and sporting manner. The election is scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024.

“The President implores gubernatorial candidates, political parties and their supporters to respect the democratic process and the will of the people. He believes in the ability of voters to make informed decisions about their future leaders.

President Tinubu stressed that democracy thrives on civility, tolerance, patience and respect for the rules of the game. He noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is committed to conducting free and fair elections and urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure a peaceful and successful process.

“The President commends the gubernatorial candidates and political parties for their campaigns which have focused on issues that matter most to the people of Edo State, including improving livelihoods, promoting economic growth and contributing to national development.

“He urges all citizens of the state to maintain peace and respect throughout the electoral process. He encourages them to resolve any disagreement amicably through the constituted authorities.

“Furthermore, President Tinubu expresses his unwavering confidence in the professionalism and integrity of the security agencies and INEC officials. He urges them to remain impartial and avoid any action that may compromise the integrity of the electoral process,” the statement reads.
