MLB's first 50-50 season and best game ever?

Somehow, Shohei Ohtani is still able to surprise us.

The most talented player in baseball history accomplished something unprecedented (again) in unforgettable fashion, becoming the first player to hit 50 home runs and record 50 stolen bases in the same season, while also becoming the first player to hit three home runs and steal two bases in a game during the Dodgers’ 20-4 win in Miami. Ohtani went 6-for-6, added two doubles and collected 10 RBIs.

The two-time MVP (and close to getting a third by becoming the first full-time designated hitter to win the award) has nine games remaining to add to his current totals of 51 homers and 51 stolen bases. Six of the Dodgers’ final nine games are against the Rockies (who have MLB’s worst team ERA) and the regular season ends at Coors Field, the league’s most hitter-friendly ballpark.

Ohtani set a new single-season home run record for the storied franchise, founded in Brooklyn in 1883, which will soon see the Japanese superstar make his postseason debut.
