LaLiga president reprimanded for Real Madrid's appeal against the CVC case

LaLiga president Javier Tebas has received a “public reprimand” from the Administrative Sports Tribunal (TAD) for a complaint filed by Real Madrid.

The TAD had opened a case against Tebas in July after Madrid filed a complaint against him.

Madrid accused the head of LaLiga of abuse of power and lack of transparency in the convening and management of the August 2021 assembly, when the agreement with the CVC investment fund on television rights was discussed with the clubs.

While Tebas avoids sanction, LaLiga said in a statement on Friday that it completely disagrees with the TAD's ruling and will appeal the decision.

The statement reads: “The TAD has resolved a claim by Real Madrid CF for having called the General Assembly of 08/12/2021 eight days in advance, instead of the required 10 days, using the urgent procedure, without expressly indicating the reasons for the urgency in the call.

“From LALIGA's point of view, there has been no infringement in the actions of President Javier Tebas Medrano. Furthermore, the call for the General Assembly has been made in compliance with all statutory requirements.”

LaLiga clubs voted in December 2021 in favour of a €2 billion ($2.2 billion) investment deal with private equity firm CVC Capital Partners, despite opposition from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Athletic Club.
