Jockey Frankie Dettori dislocated his shoulder in a terrifying fall at the Aqueduct

Famed Italian jockey Frankie Dettori suffered a dislocated right shoulder after being knocked down in the starting gate at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens on Thursday.

Dettori posted a selfie from the hospital early Friday morning announcing that she is doing well following the terrifying incident.

“I appreciate all the messages. I’m fine!” Dettori wrote“I dislocated my right shoulder; my team here at the hospital has reconstructed it.

“Thank you for the messages of concern, they mean a lot 🙏.”

Dettori is one of the most famous European jockeys in the world and, at 53, has a long list of achievements to his name during his predominantly international career.

Has won more than 275 qualified higher level or Group 1 races and more than 500 stakes and group races, including 15 Breeders' Cup victories.

New York Racing Association communications director Keith McCalmont tweeted Thursday that Pretty Liza unseated Dettori before the start of the ninth race at Aqueduct on Thursday.

The horse reared as he stood at the gate, sending Dettori sprawling onto his back. According to the Daily Racing Form.

Dettori was scheduled to ride six horses on Friday and eight on Saturday at Belmont, according to the Daily Racing Form.

“The shoulder is back in place and Dettori is returning home.” McCalmont tweeted “We will update the race status tomorrow,” Dettori’s agent Ron Anderson said Thursday.

This year is Dettori's first with his focus on the United States, according to DRF, after postponing his plans to retire after the 2023 season.
