Harris tells Oprah that anyone who enters her house “gets shot”: “I probably shouldn’t have said that”

Vice President Kamala Harris shocked Oprah Winfrey on Thursday when she said any intruder who enters her home “gets shot” during a virtual campaign rally.

Winfrey hosted the “Unite for America Rally,” a livestreamed event that featured celebrity appearances as well as questions and stories from citizens across the country.

As the event turned to the topic of gun violence, Winfrey commented on how shocked she was when Harris revealed she owned a gun at last week's presidential debate.

“I didn’t know that,” Winfrey said. “And I thought it was a powerful thing.”

“If anyone comes into my house, I will shoot them, I’m sorry,” Harris replied, laughing.

—Yes, yes. I hear it, I hear it, Winfrey replied.

“I probably shouldn’t have said that,” Harris said as everyone laughed. “But my staff will deal with that later.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Harris campaign for comment.

At the presidential debate, Harris said: “I’ve made my position very clear on fracking and on this issue of taking away everyone’s guns. Tim Walz and I are gun owners. We’re not going to take away anyone’s guns. So stop the constant lying about this issue.”

A video recently resurfaced of Harris as San Francisco district attorney in 2007 saying that police officers could enter the locked homes of legal gun owners and inspect how they stored their weapons.

“We are going to demand responsible behavior from everyone in the community, and just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home doesn’t mean we’re not going to go into that home and check to see if you’re being responsible and safe in the way you conduct your business,” Harris said at the time.

Social media users responded to Harris' comments on Thursday, pointing out her past support for mandatory gun buybacks and gun control.

“Kamala says she would be scared shitless of an intruder breaking into her home and then says 'I probably shouldn't have said that.' Let's be very clear. She has repeatedly called for their guns to be taken away and will 100% do so if elected. Safety for me, but not for you,” the liberals on TikTok wrote.

The Spectator’s contributing editor Stephen Miller agreed: “Kamala Harris advocated for mandatory door-to-door gun buyback programs. Perhaps a self-respecting journalist would follow up on that idea.”

Conservative radio host Larry Eldern wrote: “Guns for me, not you…”

Townhall.com columnist Derek Hunter commented: “The Secret Service will shoot them because she has 24-hour protection. It’s you and your family she wants to take that protection away from. Oprah pays people to protect her.”

The Unite for America Rally was organized by Win with Black Women in support of the Vice President. More than 140 grassroots organizations participated in the virtual rally, including White Women: Answer the Call, Latinas for Harris, and White Dudes for Harris.

The event took place in Oakland County, Michigan, in front of an audience of 400 people, and was also attended by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Celebrities including Bryan Cranston, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Jennifer Lopez, Tracee Ellis Ross, Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep were also present virtually.
