Cheryl Hines' friends were reportedly “bewildered” by her marriage to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., years before his alleged cheating scandal with political journalist Olivia Nuzzi.
After the actress, 58, and the politician, 70, married in August 2014, author Jerry Oppenheimer described their friends' alleged reactions in “RFK Jr.: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the Dark Side of the Dream.”
Oppenheimer highlighted Kennedy’s public history as a womanizer… intertwined with scandal.”
In her 2015 biography she wrote: “Any woman who gets involved with Bobby does so with her eyes open or with her brain amputated. Any woman who thinks she's going to change Bobby is misguided and willfully ignorant.
“Women have to understand what they’re getting into when they’re with him. You can hate him, you can make excuses, you can do whatever you want, it doesn’t change the fact that he has a long history of doing certain things.”
Oppenheimer had been friends with Kennedy Jr. for years and attended the lawyer's wedding with Hines in August 2014 in Massachusetts.
The bride's “Curb Your Enthusiasm” co-star Larry David told her boyfriend that “nothing (he does) will ever faze her,” according to Oppenheimer.
The couple began dating in 2011 and got engaged in April 2014.
Prior to the couple's nuptials, Kennedy sparked speculation of infidelity with socialite Chelsea Chapman Kirwan.
Hines was previously married to Paul Young, with whom she has a 20-year-old daughter, Catherine, from 2002 to 2010.
Kennedy, for his part, welcomed six children with his ex-wives Emily Ruth Black and Mary Richardson.
He had multiple love affairs while he was married to the latter, who Died by suicide in 2012and as reported He detailed them in a diary.
On Thursday, it emerged that RFK Jr. allegedly cheated on Hines with Nuzzi.
New York Magazine's political correspondent, who wrote a story Speaking about last year's presidential candidate, she admitted that “the nature of some communications between (her and a) former reporter became personal,” but insisted that nothing physical occurred.
Nuzzi, who did not mention Kennedy, has since been placed on leave by the outlet.
