Elle King has no regrets about sharing the trauma of her “toxic” relationship with her father Rob Schneider

Rob Schneider's daughter Elle King didn't try to cause a stir when she revealed details of her difficult relationship with her father.

King, 35, shared last month that she would go “four or five years without talking to” her father while chatting with Jelly Roll’s wife Bunnie XO on her “Dumb Blonde” podcast. She also opened up about some of the “toxic and very dumb” situations she experienced as a child.

The country singer never expected her conversation with Bunnie XO to spark any interest in her family, but she also didn't regret sharing stories from her childhood.

“I never in a million years thought this would go viral. I was just speaking about my childhood and my truth,” King told People magazine. “I wasn’t trying to hurt him.”

She added: “A lot of people said, ‘How could he say that about his family?’ and ‘Everything has to be done behind closed doors.’ No, it’s not like that. Sometimes you just have to say things and get them off your chest so you don’t have to carry them around with you for the rest of your life.”

Although Schneider offered a public apology following the release of the podcast episode, King said that means nothing.

Representatives for Schneider did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

“Your dad is one of my childhood crushes,” Bunnie told King last month of the “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo” actor. King described her relationship with her father as a uniquely up-and-down one: “I put out my record and people eventually started asking about my dad,” she said. “My dad called me and said, ‘Don’t talk about me in the press.’”

She recalled: “If I ever spent a summer with my dad, it would be on a film set. I would get lost in the chaos. If I ever messed up a take, if I was ever talking, I would get in fucking trouble.”

Bunnie asked, “Did you ever feel like you could connect?” King said, “Not until I was much, much older.”

The “Ex's & Oh's” singer recalled: “I was a very, very heavy kid. My dad sent me to fat camp and one year I got in trouble because I twisted my ankle and didn't lose weight.”

He added: “Very toxic and very stupid.”

In another excerpt, King recalled: “I had already started getting tattoos and it was like 108 degrees out, so I had to wear sweaters, because my dad was very against tattoos or any form of self-expression that differed from what he wanted.

In the podcast, the singer insisted that her father “never helped her.”

“I don’t agree with a lot of the things he says. You’re talking nonsense about drag and gay rights, and it’s like… fuck you. I want to take this opportunity to say that I don’t agree. I don’t agree with what he says.”

Bunnie stepped in to ask, “Did your dad ever try to help you?” to which King replied, “No, he never helped me. I never wanted his help.”

“He didn’t have a very good reputation either. I don’t want to be associated with him. He’s not nice. You can really want someone to change, but you can’t control other people’s actions. You can’t control people’s feelings. All you can control is how you react and what you do with your feelings, and sometimes I get angry, I lose control and I lose my temper,” she said.

“I tried all different angles. I tried lyrics. I tried soft vocals. I tried screaming… my dad forgot all the birthdays. I spent my 18th birthday at a summer school, they brought me cupcakes, and when I came home, my dad forgot my birthday,” King added.
