CAN holds prayer session for peaceful and successful elections

The Edo State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Thursday organised a prayer session for a successful and peaceful election in the state on Saturday.

The prayer came amid fears that the elections will be a must for two of the leading candidates.

Soldiers have therefore been deployed to reinforce security across the state. They have been patrolling and some of them have been stationed at strategic locations as the campaigns end on Thursday at midnight.

The whistler Heavily armed soldiers were seen patrolling Benin City, the state capital, on Thursday, some with armoured vehicles to warn off rioters.

Speaking during the prayer session, Apostle Irekpono Omoike, State Chairman of CAN, urged the electorate to vote for the candidate of their choice and not to compromise their votes.

Omoike said Edo is known to be peaceful and the prayer session was necessary to intercede for a God-fearing candidate who would love the people and respect the constituted authorities to emerge as the winner.

“The prayer is to have a governor who will uphold the principle of integrity which is the benchmark of sustainable governance in the state since the Midwest and Bendel eras,” he said.

He urged the people to embrace peace before, during and after the elections, adding that elections should not be seen as a matter of life or death.

The prayer session was attended by members of the association from all 18 local government areas of the state.

Also attending the prayer session which was also aimed at bringing peace and averting untimely deaths, attacks and other forms of electoral infractions in the state were Pastor Itua Ighodalo, the governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, Secretary, Edo State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Aigboje Irabor, among others.
