Bomb explodes in central Cologne – RT World News

German police said one person suffered minor injuries as a result and the suspect remains at large.

German police have sealed off central Cologne following an explosion in the Hohenzollernring area, known as the city's main entertainment district. Authorities have revealed that one man suffered minor injuries in the incident and authorities are searching for a suspect caught on CCTV.

Cologne police said in a statement that the explosion occurred at around 5.45am on the same day and that the 53-year-old man was injured. The explosion also caused serious damage to the doors and windows of the building in which it occurred.

“Based on police video surveillance records, police are searching for a man believed to be connected to the act and who ran towards Friesenplatz after the explosion.” The suspect was wearing a white and blue coat, dark pants and sneakers, authorities said.

According to police, the crime scene remains cordoned off as investigators continue to work there.

Hours earlier, several media outlets reported that the explosion had taken place outside the Vanity Club nightclub.

According to local media, a small fire broke out immediately after the explosion, which had already been extinguished by the time firefighters arrived.

EXPRESS.DE quoted local resident Santo Sposito as saying he saw several people fleeing the scene immediately after the incident.

Bild published what appear to be CCTV footage of the moments before the explosion. They show a man throwing a bag into the entrance of the Vanity Club, setting fire to an unidentified object and throwing it into the bag. The package explodes.
