APC to emerge victorious in free and fair election for local legislators – Uzodimma

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win the local government election in the state on Saturday in a free and fair contest.

The governor said this on Thursday at the Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square, Owerri, during the final grand rally of the APC ahead of Saturday's council election in Imo State.

He assured that the elections will be free, fair and transparent as promised by the Independent State Electoral Commission.

During the rally, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje handed over the party flag to the 27 presidential candidates and 305 ward councillor candidates, reminding them that they are the foundation-builders of society.

He said: “Even though it is called local government, you are not local, you are foundation builders.”

According to a press release by the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the governor, Oguwike Nwachuku, the governor “expressed confidence that the APC will emerge victorious in the election, noting that the candidates are not products of transparent primaries but have proven to be popular in their communities.

“He stressed the importance of the closing ceremony as a way of showing solidarity and support for the candidates, and as a way of boosting the campaigns that the candidates for President and Councillor have been carrying out in their different localities.”

The Governor, however, regretted that local government elections have been delayed from 2021 due to insecurity and banditry.

He assured that the local government elections would be conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner and called on those opposed to the current Local Government Council to cast their votes for their preferred parties on Saturday. He, however, expressed confidence that residents of the State would support the APC.
