Against all enemies | Military

Among violent far-right groups in the United States, the role played by military veterans and the threat they represent to democracy.

Why would American military veterans take up arms against the country they swore to protect “against all enemies, foreign and domestic”?

Through gripping personal accounts from both sides, this documentary delves into the violent American far-right movement, featuring the Proud Boys, the Three Percenters, and never-before-seen footage of the Oath Keepers. It examines how they are organized and led by trained military veterans, and examines the potential threat they pose to American democracy.

Most veterans make it back to civilian life, but increasingly they are drawn to the kind of groups that attacked the Capitol on January 6, 2021. This series explores the historical roots of the white supremacist movement, its appeal to today’s veterans, fueled by conspiracy theories, and the credibility accorded to it by politicians and former military officers. It is a stark warning about the existential threat to democracy in this election year and beyond.
