Kathryn Hahn’s nudity in ‘Agatha All Along’ sparked a huge backlash from Marvel boss Kevin Feige
It was a bold choice on Disney’s part.
The first episode of “Agatha All Along,” now streaming on Disney+, features one of the only instances of nudity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
During one scene, Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) runs around naked while her bare butt can be seen on screen — a shock in Marvel’s notoriously prudish and demure world.
It’s the only rear shot in the 16 years since the MCU began with 2008’s “Iron Man,” aside from a brief glimpse of Chris Hemsworth’s backside in the 2022 film “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
Jac Schaeffer, creator of “Agatha All Along” He told TV Line On Thursday, Marvel boss Kevin Feige was initially less than enthusiastic about the idea. He responded to the idea: “Really?”
Schaeffer said the scene was originally written with Agatha emerging naked from a spell Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) cast on her and then putting on a robe.
“And Kathryn came to me and said, ‘Could Agatha come get a robe? I feel like she would come out naked,’” she recalled, adding that the actress “was very willing to do it.”
Feige didn’t do it. However, Marvel’s president eventually approved it.
The scene “is firmly grounded in character. It’s not exploitative or sexual,” Schaeffer told the outlet.
She added: “It’s about this witch and what her priorities are. And right now, she needs answers and she doesn’t care if she’s naked or not. So yeah, it’s a point of pride for us.”
“Agatha All Along” is a spin-off of the MCU series “WandaVision,” which aired in 2021 and starred Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany. The series followed Wanda and Vision (Bettany) living in the suburbs after the events of the 2019 film “Avengers: Endgame.”
Agatha Harkness first appeared on screen in that show. She was a witch posing as Wanda’s nosy neighbor, Agnes.
“Agatha All Along” is the 11th MCU show, including “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” starring Wyatt Russell and Anthony Mackie, and “Loki,” starring Tom Hiddleston.
The series picks up after the events of WandaVision, when Agatha has escaped from the suburbs and formed a new coven of witches. Aubrey Plaza co-stars.
“I love to laugh,” Hahn told The Post.
“I was really glad they let me do it. I thought, ‘I have to laugh, guys, come on. I know it’s obvious, but we have to have a witch who laughs.’”
