New York lovers get engaged in the city’s secret taxi

Life changed for Re’Shae Green in a New York minute.

The Maryland-based millennial traveled to New York City as a girlfriend of her longtime boyfriend, Corey Fields, over Labor Day weekend.

But after an encounter with a very special taxi, she left the Big Apple as a bride.

“I was crossing the street when I saw a taxi with a ‘Will you marry me?’ sign on the trunk,” Green, 29, a children’s book author, told The Post with a laugh.

“Before I could even ask if it was for me, Corey was smiling and reaching into his pocket for the ring.”

“Then he got down on his knees and I was in shock.”

The souped-up taxi, a retro-style vehicle adorned with silk flowers and a glittering “Marry Me” display, is quickly becoming the most popular proposal scenario in New York City.

Whether it’s a flashy “say yes” in Times Square, a flashy “be mine” on the beach or a romantically far-fetched proposal made from jail, would-be romantics are now going beyond the boring “hide the ring in a slice of cake” in hopes of creating one-of-a-kind memories.

In fact, bridal insiders at The Knot revealed that 58% of groomsmen who get down on one knee feel “a lot” of pressure to plan a highly original proposal. According to a February survey.

Fields, 29, who teaches coding to children near Washington, D.C., Call to camerawoman Elena Komarovaas well as Qusai Smirat and Chandler Fowles of charming engagements on the Upper East Side, to curate their pop-up proposal.

After seeing photos on Komarova’s social media of the sleek taxi (a 1978 vehicle that Smirat and Fowles are offering for $1,000 per question asked), Fields set his plans in motion to propose to Green.

“I surprised Re’Shae with a weekend trip to New York and Broadway tickets to ‘The Notebook,’” she said.

Two weeks before his visit, he had secretly arranged for Komarova and the cute car to be parked a few blocks from the theater, ready for his grand gesture.

“I was nervous,” he laughed, recalling the butterflies in his stomach as they headed to the special place. “As we approached the cab, I said, ‘There’s one last thing I want to do before we leave New York.’”

Fields then got down on one knee and handed Green, his college girlfriend of nearly a decade, a two-carat stone.

“I was so excited” said green“People were shouting, clapping and yelling: ‘Congratulations!’”

“I was living my own little New York love story.”

Fowles, operations manager for Enchanting Engagements, tells The Post that his modern cab tends to drive pretty girls in town crazy.

Fowles tells The Post that couples, both from the concrete jungle and elsewhere, love the engagement taxi for its old-fashioned charm and affordable cost. Emmy Park for the NY Post.

“New Yorkers, tourists who come here, want something iconic,” he said. “And this is very New York.”

Clients who want to take the first step toward tying the knot the old-fashioned way typically book with Fowles and her team about two weeks before the proposal date. The professional then arranges a photographer and driver to accommodate guests on their happy occasion.

After each gorgeous proposal, which typically takes place in Brooklyn’s picturesque DUMBO neighborhood or a posh area near Central Park, couples enjoy a 45-minute engagement photo shoot and a bottle of champagne.

The bride and groom are then transported to the wedding destination of their choice in the golden carriage.

“You get to enjoy a magical moment in a classic taxi, riding off into the sunset with your eternal love,” he said. “People are totally enthralled by the concept.”

Green agrees, praising the impressive wheels as the perfect start to his lifelong journey with Fields.

“I had the proposal of my dreams in the city where dreams come true.”
