Bezos hid his identity in exchange for a discount on a luxury mansion, plaintiff says — RT World News

Leo Kryss agreed to sell a property in Miami for less than the asking price, unaware that the Amazon founder was the real buyer.

Brazilian toy and electronics mogul Leo Kryss is suing the real estate agent who he says persuaded him to knock $6 million off the asking price of his mansion without telling him the buyer was Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.

Kryss says he would not have accepted the discount and would have extracted more than the $79 million he sold the property for if he had known the world's second-richest person was behind the offer.

Bezos is currently worth more than $200 billion, behind only Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. Bezos purchased the 19,000-square-foot mansion on Miami's Indian Creek Island, known as the “The billionaires’ bunker” In October, the mansion, which features a wine cellar, library and theater, was put up for sale for $85 million.

Kryss is now taking US real estate company Douglas Elliman, which handled both sides of the sale, to court for allegedly concealing the identity of the Amazon founder.

Kryss claimed that Bezos had purchased the adjacent property for $68 million in June of the same year, so she suspected the billionaire was behind the offer on her home and questioned whether he was really the prospective buyer, according to court documents. Douglas Elliman claimed to have had no such knowledge, according to the legal documents. Kryss, who paid $28 million to buy the place in 2014, agreed to sell the property for $6 million below the asking price.

Only later did he learn that he had sold the property to an entity linked to Bezos. Knowing who the real buyer was would have been “very important for the negotiations (of Kryss) and his decision on the final sale price,” The legal document states:

His lawyer also claimed that the real estate agent “He knew or should have known who the ultimate beneficial purchaser was and misrepresented that fact so important to our client.”

Indian Creek Island has 41 addresses, and residents include former US President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump, NFL legend Tom Brady and model Adriana Lima.

In April, Bezos raised his total investment in the area to $237 million with the purchase of a third mansion on the island for $90 million.

The court hearing is scheduled for October 11.
