American music mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs has reportedly been placed on suicide watch amid sex trafficking charges as he awaits trial.
The Media Geniuses Nigeria remembers that Diddy was arrested at a New York hotel earlier this week. and faces charges of sex trafficking, organized crime and transportation for the purpose of prostitution.
The 54-year-old is currently being held at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center after pleading not guilty. His bail has been denied twice.
Sources told PEOPLE that putting Diddy on suicide watch is a precautionary measure as his mental status is uncertain and he is in shock.
The U.S. Department of Justice defines suicide watch as heightened supervision for inmates considered at risk.
Combs' legal team has asked for his release on $50 million bail, suggesting electronic monitoring, weekly drug testing, restricted visitation, the surrender of his passport and no contact with women.
However, the judge again denied bail on Wednesday, citing concerns that Combs could interfere with the case.
Judge Andrew Carter expressed particular concern about possible obstruction of justice and witness tampering.
“My biggest concern is about the danger of obstruction of justice and the danger of witness tampering. That's a real concern I have here.“,” Judge Andrew Carter said.
During Tuesday's arraignment, Combs' attorney, Marc Agnifilo, said his client is receiving treatment and therapy, but did not provide further details due to confidentiality.
Asked for his statement by US Magistrate Judge Robyn F Tarnofsky, Diddy replied: ““Not guilty.”
If convicted, Diddy faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and could receive life in prison.
