Review of daily front pages of Nigerian newspapers

Naija News Analyzes the main events that appear in the headlines of Nigeria's national newspapers today, Friday, September 20, 2024.

The punch: The country’s crude oil refineries and officials of the Dangote Oil Refinery have opposed the commencement of the importation of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, by Nigeria’s major oil marketers. Vanguard:A day after the Edo State gubernatorial election, the three major political parties (Labour Party, LP; Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; and All Progressives Congress, APC; Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN; and former President Goodluck Jonathan) have tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies to ensure the vote is credible.

The Nation:The Federal Government is no longer dependent on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to fund its emerging obligations, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, said yesterday. He attributed the feat to the fruits being borne by ongoing efforts to improve efficiency and increase revenue.

Daily Confidence: Borno State’s decision to close relief camps for people displaced by the devastating floods that ravaged Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere Local Government Area (LGA) has thrown some families into turmoil. Some flood survivors who took shelter in the camps said the state government’s decision will push them deeper into crisis as their houses are uninhabitable and they have nowhere to go.
