Dutch university offers scholarships for non-EU students in 2025

The Radboud Scholarship Programme is now accepting applications from non-EEA students with strong academic records.

The EEA, or European Economic Area, includes the countries of the European Union (EU), as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

The initiative of the scholarship programme is to provide financial support to individuals pursuing a Master's programme at Radboud University in the Netherlands by offering a significant reduction in tuition fees.

Eligible candidates include those who hold a non-EU/non-EEA passport and who have completed a bachelor's degree outside the Netherlands; scholarship region reports.

Scholarship Overview

The Radboud Scholarship Programme offers a reduction of up to €15,000 per year in tuition fees. This funding comes from the Radboud University Profile Fund.

In addition to the tuition fee reduction, the scholarship covers expenses related to visas, residence permits, health insurance and liability insurance for students during their stay in the Netherlands.

Program director Professor Hans de Wit said: “Our goal is to support talented students who can make a significant contribution to our academic community.”

The scholarship is said to be available to students who meet specific criteria.

Eligibility Requirements

Reports indicate that to qualify for the Radboud Scholarship, applicants must have a non-EU/EEA passport and not be eligible for lower EU/EEA tuition fees for any reason.

Candidates must also have a bachelor's degree obtained outside the Netherlands and cannot have any degree obtained within the country, excluding exchange programmes linked to the bachelor's degree.

The scholarship is subject to students meeting the English language proficiency requirements for their chosen Master's programme. In addition, students must be fully admitted to an English-taught Master's programme as of 1 September 2024.

Duration and economic benefits

The Radboud scholarship reduces the cost of tuition to 2,530 euros. According to reports, in the 2024/2025 academic year the scholarship holder will pay only 2,530 euros instead of 17,000 euros. Although the scholarship covers various expenses, it does not include living expenses or expenses related to studies in the Netherlands.

Wushishi explained: “This financial aid allows students to focus on their studies without the burden of paying high tuition fees.”

The scholarship can be renewed for a second year if students pass all courses in their first year.

Application process

Interested candidates must prepare several documents to apply for the Radboud Scholarship. Required documents include:

  • a motivation letter and two letters of reference.

To start the application process, candidates must visit the scholarship website and indicate their wish to apply for the Radboud Scholarship during the application for admission to a Master's program.

They will then have to upload the additional documents required, as reported on the website.

It is important to note that selection for the scholarship and admission to the master's program are separate processes. Being admitted to the master's program does not guarantee selection for the scholarship.
