Patriots vs. Jets live updates: Thursday Night Football heads to New England as Aaron Rodgers looks for his first AFC East win

Aaron Rodgers earned his first (full-game) win in Week 2 in the Jets’ 24-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans, and he looks to lead Gang Green to a second straight win in the Meadowlands on Thursday against the division-rival Patriots. The Jets earned that first win of the season after a Week 1 loss to the 49ers. The Patriots have since moved to 1-1 in the other direction, winning a Week 1 matchup with the Bengals before losing in overtime to the Seahawks in Week 2.

Rodgers and the Jets’ passing attack might have to do the heavy lifting against the Patriots. New England ranks second in the league after two weeks in run defense, allowing fewer than 60 yards per game, while the Jets enter Week 3 ranked 26th in the league in rushing yards, despite having a backfield led by Breece Hall and Braelon Allen. The Patriots will look to keep the ball on the ground on offense — they’re fifth in the NFL with 177.5 rushing yards per game, led by Rhamondre Stevenson, who’s averaging just over 100 yards per game.

  • HALFTIME: Jets 14, Patriots 3

Aaron Rodgers has completed 15 of 20 passes for 170 yards and a touchdown. Jacoby Brissett has completed 7 of 9 passes for 36 yards. The Jets are outscoring the Patriots 252-40. It's actually surprising that the margin isn't bigger right now.

  • Rodgers misses a pass to Garrett Wilson on third-and-10 with 14 seconds left, leaving Greg Zuerlein to attempt a 45-yard field goal. The Patriots get lucky when Rodgers throws the ball wide left.

  • The Jets have again entered Patriots territory, this time just after the two-minute stoppage. Rodgers has three timeouts to work with before halftime.

  • FIELD GOAL: Patriots score from 44 yards

It took 49 yards in pass interference yards, but the Patriots will take advantage of that after how this game started.

  • The Patriots' offensive line is struggling. They get stopped short of the red zone and now attempt a 44-yard field goal.

  • And then the Jets bailed out the Patriots with a DJ Reed pass interference call. They're now in Jets territory.

  • That might have been an early whistle. Jets safety Chuck Clark lunged into the backfield and had Brissett, but couldn't bring him down right away. The referees waved off the play when Brissett found Antonio Gibson on a lateral pass, likely costing the Patriots some yards. It's now 3rd-and-9 after 2nd-and-1.

  • TOUCHDOWN: Referees give Breece Hall his TD

A commercial break later, the Jets have a two-touchdown lead and aren't having much trouble against a Patriots team that tormented them just a few years ago.

  • Breece Hall was ruled to have not reached the goal line, but replay appears to clearly show he had the ball in the air before he fell. Jets head coach Robert Saleh is challenging the call and New York should be up 14-0 within minutes.

  • A fun detail. The Jets bring in 300-pound fullback Solomon Thomas. It was a trick play, but Thomas tackled a running back (Rodgers' pass was incomplete in the end zone).

  • Phew, the Jets blitz on third-and-seven and Brissett gets the sack with some wide receivers open. Then left tackle Caedan Wallace gets called for illegal formation.
