16-year-old arrested and charged with murder for shooting his mother to death in New York

A 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged with murder Thursday, more than a week after a Big Apple mother was shot and killed in front of her family during a violent robbery, police said.

The teenager, who was not identified, was also charged with robbery, theft and criminal possession of a weapon in the shooting death of Ying Zhu Liu, a 57-year-old home health aide, police said.

Two other young suspects are still being sought, sources told The Post.

Liu was killed in the eighth-floor hallway of her building in lower Manhattan shortly after 11 p.m. on Sept. 9.

Authorities said last week that two suspects wearing black ski masks followed the victim's 61-year-old husband into the building and into the elevator, where they attempted to rob him.

When the son witnessed the robbery on the eighth floor, he tried to intervene, but was hit with a pistol by one of the suspects, according to sources.

Liu then heard the fight and came out with a stick to confront the attackers before he was shot in the face.

The robbers allegedly grabbed Liu's husband's cell phone before fleeing.

“It’s all surreal,” Liu’s distraught son, Lin Rong Yan, 32, told The Post last week. “Right now, all I feel is sadness.”
